"I became involved with GNI as I can think of no better way than getting a group of my fav Gal Pals together to help raise money for woman's cancer research. How amazing... gathering girlfriends together to help fight an illness that has effected so many women just like you and me."
I've been involved in countless of fundraisers, especially women's issues, and I'm grateful that my awareness of different diseases, including their effects on family and friends has grown considerably over the last twenty years. And so has my passion to help in any way possible. I have met some of the bravest and most inspiring people. To me, Girls Night In is a celebration of life, and a wonderful way to be a part of helping your own, or someone else's sister, mother, grandmother, daughter or friend.
What girl wouldn’t want to combine a night at home with all your favourite girlfriends with knowing that you are raising money for a great cause? It’s a win win! Every day in this country 46 women will be told they have a women’s cancer, and we want to put a stop to that. Raising money through Girl’s Night In is a way we can all make sure we see that happen.
I see this as the perfect opportunity to highlight the incidence of cancer and the ongoing need to support the Cancer Council in its quest to fund research, support and treatment. Combining a great cause with a group of great women is a no-brainer. My ideal Girls Night In would bring together a collection of women of all ages and stages with endless champagne and Downton Abbey on a loop!
"I think it's important we have a support network of women around us. A space that gives us the chance to openly discuss what's going on for us. A place where we can feel strong or vulnerable and not feel judged. Girls Night In is a great reason to get a bunch of girls together and feel connected to the wider community. Everyone's so busy with work, family's etc but cancer is something that touches all of our lives. My mother died of bowel cancer and she felt so alone through her treatment. It's time we brought everything out into the open to help those we love get through the tough times" My idea of a Girls Night In- A love a pot luck. Everyone brings their signature dish, music, candles and good wine.
“I love it when it's such a pleasure to do something good! But Girls Night In isn't just about picking the easiest way to give to a charity, it's also about coming together as a community of women to show support for those among us who've been touched by cancer.”
"I've always been a fan of a good night in. What better way to have it than with close friend and for a good cause."
Alana is honoured and excited to be a part of such a wonderful initiative. “To get women and men thinking about their health is a great thing,” she says. “We need to know our bodies and be aware even when little changes happen and never to be too scared to go and get them checked by the doctor, as you never know what a little change might mean”.
One of Australia’s leading fashion designers, Leona Edmiston began in the 1980’s with her first fashion label, Morrissey Edmiston shared with former business partner, Peter Morrissey. The Morrissey Edmiston label received significant local and international recognition and dressed a string of celebrity clients including Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, Kylie Minogue, Elle Macpherson, Michael Hutchence, Helena Christensen, Harry Connick Jr and Jon Bon Jovi. Leona launched her solo label with business partner Jeremy Ducker in 2001 and they formed the present company of Ducker Edmiston. The label, entitled ‘Leona Edmiston’ is a tribute to the dress in all it’s incarnations. A Leona Edmiston Frock is elegant, versatile and ageless.
"My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was 31 and she had 4 kids under the age of 6. I remember that my brothers and sisters and I had to all be sent to separate relatives’ houses, and it remains a vivid memory in all of our minds. My mum survived because she discovered the cancer early on. My aunt on my Dads side died in her early 40s when her youngest daughter was only 4 years old. To lose your mother at any age is awful, but to not have the chance to grow up with your Mum is truly devastating. Anything that increases awareness and helps to educate women about these health issues is invaluable."
"I am thrilled to be one of the new ambassadors for the Girls Night in for Cancer. This is such an amazing cause and an excellent way to gather your best friends together to raise money for such a special foundation."
"I think it is a wonderful initiative to promote a serious issue in a fun, uplifting way that brings women together and prompts discussion."
"What's more fun than a night in with the girls and at same time, raising awareness for an issue that impacts all women, so get it behind it ladies."
"Any way the message can be spread to raise awareness about ovarian cancer is fantastic and I’m planning my GNI now."
"I'm so excited to be an Ambassador for Girls Night In because it's the perfect combination of my two passions. Hanging out with the girls AND supporting the greatest cause there is- research, prevention and support services for women's cancers. There's no better excuse to hang out with the girls this October!"
