The Girl's Night In campaign is so important for not only drawing attention to cancer, but encouraging women to get together and talk about it. So often we put our heads in the sand because we're scared to think about cancer, but when you discuss it in a supportive environment with friends it's much easier to confront. We have to be mindful of our bodies and our vulnerabilities, and this campaign is so wonderful because it reminds us that we're not alone. To put aside a night to eat, drink and have fun with your girlfriends is a fantastic way to not only appreciate your friends, but also make sure that you all learn and understand cancer and what your risks are.

I am very pleased to be a part of the Cancer Council's "Girls Night In" throughout October.  It is a wonderful way of bringing women together to raise much needed funds for women’s cancers as well as heightening our awareness of these issues in a fun and stimulating way.  Everyone knows someone who has experienced the trauma of cancer.  So many vibrant and courageous women, both within our own private circles and the public arena, have battled women’s cancers - some prevailing and tragically, others losing their fight. It is so very important to be aware of and talk about these issues, to be committed to having regular health checks and making sure any irregularities are found early, and to be involved in wonderful events like the "Girls Night In".  Go ladies!

I was honored when the cancer council approached me to be an ambassador for the girl’s night in fundraiser.  This is such an important charity to me as I had a small scare with cancerous cells a few years ago and I realised that cancer was such an indiscriminate disease. It doesn’t matter if you’re healthy, skinny, overweight, old, young, rich or poor, cancer can affect anyone.  Girls Night In is such a great idea for a fundraiser as it s all about girl power and girl friends sticking together.  It gives us girls a chance to spend time together while helping this fantastic cause; if we all come together to raise vital money for cancer research we can save lives and hopefully one day find a cure.

A girls night in? Hmmm, good food, great gossip and a James McAvoy DVD – does it get much better?

It does if you donate the money you’d normally spend on a night out with the girls to help in the fight against cancers that affect women. I’ll be having the girls over in October to do our bit for The Cancer Council and I hope you do too.

Gals, let’s do as our Mums always did – bring a plate and donate!

I spend my life having a girl night in with my two teenage sons, so having a girls (plural) one would be a great chance! It’s a great chance to watch Idol, So You Think You Can Dance or Sex and the City repeats.

I have several girlfriends who have battled (and beaten) breast cancer. There are others who have ultimately been defeated by the disease. This is seriously great cause because I doubt there is anyone in Australia who hasn’t been touched by this dreadful illness.

Get on board...share something special with your mates and enjoy a really good Girls Night In.
